Horse Shows
For many of our riders, their main goal is to show their horse during our competition season. We begin our show season in March, traveling to shows in various states, and wrap it all up in November at the UPHA American Royal National Championships in Kansas City, MO. We attend shows that offer classes for beginner riders competing in the academy division, as well as qualifying shows for our World and National championships. Every August we take our qualified riders to the World's Championship Horse Show in Louisville, Kentucky. This show is a dream of many competitors, and we are proud to offer opportunities for our riders to achieve their dream at this level. We take competing seriously, but we also know how to have a lot of fun at shows! Check out our competition schedule on the calendar below and come cheer on Team Seldom Seen!
Preparing for Success: Winter Tournaments
To best prepare our riders for show season, we offer monthly tournaments at the farm, beginning in January. These tournaments are set up very similar to an actual show, and they allow riders to polish their show ring skills and strategies. Riders are assigned patterns and have the opportunity to practice these equitation tests before each tournament. Riders draw horses at random before the next month's show so that they have opportunities to practice their skills on a variety of horses.
Academy division
The academy division is where many of our riders have their first horse show experience. In academy, riders compete on lesson horses, which is a great way to try showing before committing to owning a horse. Riders also show in partial suits and helmets.
Performance division
When riders are ready to step up from the academy division, they will make their debut in the performance division. This type of showing is performed on show horses, typically owned or leased by the rider. A full suit is worn and riders are often competing to qualify their horses for World and National championship eligibility.
